Who is this qualification for?
The HABC Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is a qualification designed to help organisations meet the minimum requirements for First Aiders in accordance with Health & Safety First Aid at Work Regulations (1981).
Students will gain the knowledge and skills to effectively perform a wide variety of First Aid procedures in the workplace and deal with almost any emergency effectively until the arrival of professional help.
This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to become first-aiders in the workplace.
This qualification meets the requirements for training first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment.
This course is also available for anybody that works in Rail, Security or any other skilled roles.
How long will it take?
To complete this qualification learners should expect to undertake 22 hours of learning, typically over 3 days, with a minimum contact time of 18 hours.
The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness.
The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis.

Previously, students who attended our first aid courses were required to pass a final practical assessment. This has been replaced with continuous observation by the trainer and written assessments.
Upon successful completion learners may wish to continue their development via the completion of any of the signposted qualifications/training:
- HABC Level 3 Award in First Aid Response
- HABC Level 3 Award in Paediatric Emergency First Aid (QCF)
- HABC Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF)
You must also be able to provide personal photographic identification – details will be sent to you in your welcome pack.
This qualification lasts for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. In addition to this it is also recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
Learners achieving this qualification may also go on to take other specialist first aid qualifications, such as:
