Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid training Course – One Day

This first aid courses for children care is a regulated qualification that is provided through an awarding organisation that is recognised and regulated by one of the UK regulators (e.g. Ofqual in England, SQA accreditation in Scotland). This Paediatric First Aid Training certificate of achievement awarded to successful learners will contain the logo of Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance and the relevant UK regulators along with the full qualification title and number.

Important additional information

In line with Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements, at least one person who has a current full paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a current full paediatric first aid certificate.

Who is this Paediatric First Aid Course for?

The Paediatric First Aid Course is aimed at individuals wishing to gain the knowledge and skills required to enable them to provide effective emergency paediatric first aid. This first aid courses for children care is intended for learners such as parents and relatives, pre-school or nursery staff, toddler group volunteers. It is also for childminders and nannies, au pairs and foster parents. It is for staff or anyone who has to deliver first aid as part of their role in either childcare settings or a domestic environment.

This Paediatric First Aid Course is for people working with younger children – those up to eight years old. It is also for those working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education. Close Protection Operatives, who have a requirement to safeguard a client’s children, would also benefit from this course. However it will only provide the minimum requirements and give a basic understanding of Paediatric First Aid issues.

How long will this Paediatric First Aid Course take?

To complete this Paediatric First Aid training qualification, learners should expect to undertake 8 hours of learning.

Understand the role and responsibilities of the emergency paediatric first aider, have the ability to assess an emergency situation and prioritise your actions. You will also learn how to help a baby or child who is:

  • unresponsive and breathing normally
  • unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • having a seizure
  • choking
  • suffering from shock
  • bleeding
  • Action Planning in case anaphylaxis

Assessment method for this Paediatric First Aid Training

This Paediatric First Aid training qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and written/oral questioning.

The Paediatric First Aid Course is valid for three years.
